Alfred Momotenko-Levitsky (b. 1970) was born into a family of professional artists (with an actress and choir conductor/musician as parents). He started his musical career as a xylophone player at a young age at the Sochi College of Arts. Later, he went on to study at the Moscow State University of Culture and Arts and then at the Brabants Conservatory (NL) as a percussionist and mallet performer. At the same time, he started to write music for his own applications.
After graduating as a musician, he continued his studies in composition under the guidance of Professor Alexander Hrisanide, Professor Willem Jeths and Professor Maino Remmers. Alfred Momotenko-Levitsky also took many seminars from the professors/composers Roderik de Man, Bob Becker and Vinko Globokar. In 2008, he graduated with distinction with a Master’s Degree in Music from the Fontys Conservatorium and in Sonology and Sound Design from the Royal Conservatory at The Hague (NL).
In 2002, he won the first price of the VSB Fund Composition Concourse, de Rode Hoed Amsterdam with the composition “Drinklied” for voice and vibraphone. For this piece, the composer took an original poem from the Dutch writer and poet Gerrit Krol.
In April of 2003, the composer and musician was invited to participate in “The Composers’ Symposium” at the Noord Einde in The Hague, the Palace of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. Mr. Momotenko-Levitsky was personally received by the composer Steve Reich and the formal Queen Beatrix as their guest of honour.
