Composer-music theorist Costas Tsougras (b. 1966) is an Associate Professor of Systematic Musicology and Music Theory/Analysis at the School of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a teacher of music theory and composition at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki. He has a BMus and a PhD from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a composition diploma from the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki. In 2000, he was a visiting scholar at the Columbia University in New York, where he worked on his PhD project with Fred Lerdahl. He has published theoretical and analytical work at international and Greek journals and conference proceedings on GTTM, cognitive and computational models, tonal/modal music and Greek/international contemporary music. His compositions have been performed and recorded by acclaimed musicians and ensembles (the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the Greek Contemporary Music Ensemble, the dissonART Ensemble, the New Hellenic Quartet, the Idee Fixe Ensemble, the Piandaemonium, the Iowa Brass Quintet, etc).
