Maria Kõrvits (b. 1987) has graduated from Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre where she studied composition with Tõnu Kõrvits and Helena Tulve. She has taken masterclasses from numerous composers, among others Arvo Pärt, Erkki-Sven Tüür and Veljo Tormis.
Kõrvits has written chiefly chamber and choir music. Her works have been performed by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Choir Sireen, Mixed Choir HUIK! Norrbotten NEO et al. Kõrvits’ orchesta piece “falling up into the bowl of sky” was selected by radio music producers participating in the category of composers under 30 years of age at the 63rd International Rostrum of Composers held in Wroclaw, 2016. At the same year Kõrvits received the annual award of The Cultural Endowment of Estonia music endowment.
