Mart Soo (b. 1964) is an Estonian guitarist, pedagogue, and composer. His main interests are improvised music, jazz and minimal music. In 1990, he graduated the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School. Since then, he works as a guitar teacher in the same school.
He has played with Tunnetusüksus, Weekend Guitar Trio, Samm Bennett, Lisa Karrer & David Simons, Vladimir Tarasov Baltic Art Orchestra, Ensemble Uncontrolled, Petras Vyšniauskas, Juozas Milašius, Brian Melvin, Jacques Di Donato, Xavier Charles, Isabelle Duthoit, Taavi Kerikmäe, Martine Altenburger, Chris Cutler, Jean-Marc Montera, Paul Lovens, Uchihashi Kazuhisa, Markus Reuter, Vox Clamantis, Estonian Guitar Octet, Eugene Chadbourne, ASK:, Quartet for the End of Time, Jan Bang, Fred Frith, Jaak Sooäär, Toyah Willcox, Arkadi Gotesman, Esa Pietilä, Scott L. Miller (under the name Three Free Radicals).
Mart has performed at jazz and new music festivals in Europe, USA and Japan. He has recorded about 50 CDs as a sideman. He has composed music for radio plays, theatre and films. Since 2005, he is the co-curator of the improvised music concerts series “Improtest” in Tallinn with Taavi Kerikmäe. In 2014, Mart Soo released his first solo album “KULG”. In 2017, he received a Danske Bank Jazz Award.
