Tilen Lebar (b. 1993) is a saxophonist, composer and chamber musician. He pursued and successfully completed a Bachelor’s Degree in musical arts with principal study in saxophone class under Matjaz Drevensek at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet in Maribor and under Miha Rogina at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). Since 2016, he has educated himself in the composition class of Uros Rojko at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana and, since 2018, in the class of Bernhard Lang at Kunstuniversität in Graz (Austria). As performer, he has been on stage at festivals of classical, improvised, experimental, jazz and popular music. As a composer, he has had premiere performances at festivals such as: the ISCM World Music Days (2015), festival Predihano – Matrix (2016) with SWR Experimental studio, the 5th International Festival of Guitar in Postojna (2016), Leicht über Linz in Austria (2016), Zvokotok (2015–2018), Concerti e Conferenze del Conservatorio di Udine in Italy (2017), Neforma (2017–2018), Confine aperto (2018), XVIII World Saxophone Congress in Croatia (2018), etc. In December 2016, he was on exchange student in Linz (Austria) with Iris ter Schiphorst, Caspar Johannes Walter and Carola Bauckholt. In 2017, he received a full scholarship for the International Summer Academy of the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien (International Summer Academy), where he studied composition with Yann Robin (France) and Francesco Filidei (Italy) and contemporary music performance with the Klangforum Wien and the Ictus Ensemble from Brussels. In 2017, he received a Prešerens Prize from the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana for his achievements in a compositional work and for the portrait concert “Layering Time”.
