The programme of “World Music Days 2019” premieres the audiovisual work “Woodland Whispers” by Australian-Estonian composer Olev Muska. The performance will be followed by the premiere party of Olev Muska’s compilation record “Laulik-elektroonik. Explorations in Estonian Electronic Folk Music – The First Years, 1979–1983” together with the concert and DJ’s. Composer Olev Muska was born in Australia and works there. His musical work “Woodland Whispers” has been dedicated to his Estonian origin and to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia. According to Muska, both synthesized and sampled speech fragments meet in this work, as well as digital and manually completed drawings. All this forms a disordered heap of elaborate audiovisual clump. Since 1979, Olev Muska has also recorded unique versions of Estonian folk music on various electronic music instruments. Muska’s debut album “Old Estonian Waltzes” was released in Australia in 1985. Estonian archival label Frotee asked Muska to collect all Estonian-themed songs recorded prior to his debut album from 1985 and compiled an LP titled “Laulik-Elektroonik” released in August 2018. At his premiere in Tallinn Olev Muska performs audiovisual work, including electronic versions of Estonian folk music and remixes from his compilation.
