Age Veeroos (b. 1973) studied composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (EMTA) with profs. Eino Tamberg and Helena Tulve and at the Karlsruhe Upper Music School with prof. Wolfgang Rihm. She participated in the IRCAM course (Paris, 2004), the Salvatore Sciarrino masterclass with prof. Haas (Rome, 2004) and the Acanthes modern music summer school (Metz, 2005). Age graduated the doctoral studies at the EMTA and is currently writing her thesis on the aspects of quiet sounds played sul ponticello on bowed instruments. Age Veeroos is the instigator of the Young Composers’ competition and the musical creativity summer school “Loomelabor”. Veeroos is a member of the Estonian Composers’ Union and the Estonian Electronic Music Society.
Age’s work “I am the big moon on your horizon” for percussion instruments was performed earlier this year by Slagwerk den Haag at an online concert in Brussels organized by the European Orchestra of Contemporary Composers (ECCO). Age worked on a piano piece for Beethoven’s 250th birthday with German pianist Susanne Kessel which included concerts in Germany, recording works in the WDR and publishing by Musica Ferrum LTD. Among her most recent works is “Kulunud koraal” (“A threadbare chant”) for bass flute and electronics in collaboration with Maria Jönsson.
