Madli Marje Gildemann (Sink) (b. 1994) started studying composition at the Georg Ots Tallinn Music School with Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes and Andrus Kallastu from 2016–2018. Right now, she is in the Mathias Steinauer composition class and the Tamriko Kordzaia piano class at the Zurich Art Academy. She has furthered her studies in masterclasses by Bruno Karrer and Fabio Nieder. Madli Marje Sink has composed music primarily for large chamber groups and focused on creating darker and droning soundscapes. The main focus of her creative work is the trans-composition of different airplanes and helicopters (for the cycle “The Vessels of War”) where the author reflects these vehicles as mythological creatures and searches for alternatives to presenting and reviving local traditions. Her first piece in 2017-2018 was “AH-64 APACHE/Sumiseja, sumiseja…” (LHV Special Prize), the next part of the cycle was “Pistriku sügiskarje” (“A Hawk’s Autumnal Shriek”), which will premiere in 2020 in Zurich. Madli Marje Sink’s work “Sõjaveteran Hugo Gulbrandt” (“War Veteran Hugo Gulbrandt”) represented Estonia at the 2013 Young Composers’ Rostrum and in 2017, she won second place at the Young Composers’ Competition in Estonia.
She is currently researching the original model of composer Ivan Võšnegradski’s microtonal piano and writing a commissioned work, which is to premiere at the Basel Microtonal Music Festival in June of 2019.
