Alise Bērziņa is a Latvian composer born in 1995 in Riga. She studied at the Jurmala High School of Music, as a choir conductor (2002–2015), graduated from the Jāzeps Vītols’ Latvian Academy of Music in music pedagogy (2019). Now Alise is a 3rd year composition student at the Jāzeps Vītols’ Latvian Academy of Music (docent Ēriks Ešenvalds), currently studying at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (prof. Tõnu Kõrvits) as an exchange student. Alise has participated in several composition contests, such as Pēteris Vasks Composition Competition; Vox Juventutis 2020, an organ music project Riga Cathedral Inspires, where her composition Lights (organist Aigars Reinis) was premiered on March 19, 2021; at the alternative chamber music festival Sansusī, where her composition A Misty Field (trio Tresensus) was premiered in 2021; and also a few workshops such as the Summer Media Studio in Pervalka, Lithuania. Among other choirs, Alise has worked as a singer in choir MASKA (conductor Jānis Ozols) since 2018, and has worked as theory and music teacher at the Bolderājas Music School. In her compositional work Alise loves to dig deeper into the fields of philosophy and psychology, where she finds inspiration from emotions, feelings and the labyrinths of the mind. She likes to try new and different approaches, musical techniques with each new composition.
