Taavi Kull

Taavi Kull has been working as a conductor in Theatre Vanemuine since 2014. He has studied piano and choir conducting in Tallinn Music High School and Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with prof Toomas Kapten and prof Paul Mägi. In 2013 Taavi obtained a master degree in orchestra conducting from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with prof Daniel Harding. He has also participated at the masterclasses of Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Lutz Köhler and Ronald Zollmann.

He has conducted NorrlandsOperan SO, Gävle SO, Dalarna Sinfonietta, Västeros Sinfonietta, Norrköpping SO – all in Sweden. In Estonia, he has worked with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Pärnu City Orchestra and others.

As an assistant he has worked with operas Wozzeck and La Bohéme (NorrlandsOperan), Peter Grimes (Kungliga Operan). In Theatre Vanemuine he has conducted operas Carmen (Bizet), Rehepapp (Aints), Reigi õpetaja (Tubin), Lucia di Lammermoor (Donizetti), Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovski), Don Giovanni (Mozart), Tulleminek (Lill). As a music director, he has brought out Theatre director (Mozart), Mozart and Salieri (Rimski-Korsakov), children’s opera Guugelmuugelpunktkomm (Aints), ballet Romeo and Julia (Prokofjev) and musical Sister act (Menken).

In 2017 Märt-Matis Lill, Jan Kaus, Taago Tubin and Taavi Kull were awarded Theatre Prize for the opera Tulleminek. Since 2016 Taavi is also the artistic director and conductor of the Tartu University Symphony Orchestra.
