Tõnis Kaumann (b. 1971), a self-employed entrepreneur, was born, similarly to most Estonian composers of the older generation, into a family of a worker and a civil servant. He spent his childhood and youth behind the Iron Curtain subverting the Soviet system from inside. This subversion is yet to be continued. Within the framework of the Life Long Learning Programme, Mr. Kaumann has graduated from several educational establishments. There also exist numerous institutions where he has never studied. At times free from vacation, as a member of the well-known and unknown musical collectives of the home republic, Mr. Kaumann performs music by living composers and of those that have departed.
