Ekke Västrik (b. 1988) is a composer working with both electronic and acoustic sounds. He studied sound engineering at the Baltic Film, Media and Art School, then, inspired by some experiences in field recording, he entered the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, specialising in electroacoustic composition (with Margo Kõlar and Helena Tulve as teachers). Västrik’s artistic formation was strongly influenced by free improvisation studies with Taavi Kerikmäe: as a result, he found his favourite instrument, the modular synthesizer, which has become his main tool for composition, improvisation and music making. In 2017, Ekke Västrik was one of the founders of the Estonian Electronic Music Society.
