
Xu Dong (China) is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Composition at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre under the guidance of Professor Helena Tulve. In 2014, while studying for his Bachelor’s degree in Piano, he began exploring the field of composition. Between 2014 and 2015, he studied four-part harmony and modern music writing under Professors Kang Baoying and Kang Yihui. In July 2015, Dong Xu participated in the Beijing International Composition Workshop, where he delved into the performance techniques of both Chinese and Western instruments and modern composition methods. From 2016 to 2019, he furthered his studies in contemporary music composition under Professor Jia Guoping, orchestration with Professor Guo Xiaohu, and harmony analysis, four-part harmony composition, form, and work analysis with Professor Zhu He. Additionally, he studied counterpoint composition and analysis under the mentorship of Professor Liang Fayong.
His accolades include First Prize at the Opus Artis Paris International Composition Award 2024, First Prize at the Scandinavian International Composition Competition, the Platinum Award at the 21st Century Prominent Musicians Award (ECM), and the Special Representative Award for China (highest score), among others.
